My Thoughts:
I’m a little conflicted with this book. Though I will admit to actually enjoying this book, there were a few choices the characters made that I just wasn’t buying. With that said I still thought it was a cute and interesting story and did love witnessing the growth of both main characters.
When Anica gets upset with her date she impulsively changes him into a cat. But by invoking an ancient spell, Anica loses her magic and finds there is no clear cut counter spell. Relying on her sister Lily, and reluctant to ask more seasoned witches for help, Anica must figure out a way for Jasper to become a man again. After trying out a few things, Jasper is able to gain back a few hours at a time each day but must figure out how to gain the rest of his time back.
Anica and Jasper are interesting. Whereas Anica is a bit uptight and very goody goody, when we first meet Jasper he is a bit of a jerk. I wondered if the author would be able to change my mind about him, and while he wouldn’t rank on any of my heart throb lists, I did begin to take a liking to him. Throughout their time together we see Anica become less inhibited and less controlling, while Jasper becomes more considerate and much more compassionate.
Now, the issue I had with the book was Anica’s and Jasper’s focus on sex in the midst of this craziness. I couldn’t believe that they wasted so much valuable time on their physical attraction instead of focusing on finding a fix. For a while it seemed that was really all their relationship was about and it was kind of annoying. The author failed to convince me that this man’s first priority should have been sex with Anica, instead of researching a way out of his predicament. That was just absurd to me. Also, the author was a bit crass here and there, especially during the sex scenes. I’m thinking this just may be her style and I have to get used to it though. Since it was my first book by her I will not hold it against her.
Otherwise, this was quite an enjoyable book with a different and cutesy storyline. This is also the first in the series, and I will be reading the second installment sometime in the future. PS…isn’t that a fabulous cover!?
